Modern Margarita's

Happy National Tequila Day! I am celebrating today as we speak with a smooth shot of tequila, just kidding, not yet anyway! I am having friends over tonight to reign in the festivities with fabulous summer cocktails, and well tequila is definitely a warm weather favorite around here. Just to make sure my party drinks will be spectacular tonight, I tested out the goods earlier this week!

I was first introduced to tequila in college (that's right I used to be a good little Catholic girl), I would purchase the generic brand in bulk --yikes! After gaining the freshman 15+, I figured it best to cut back. Thankfully I heard three little words that changed my life, "skinny girl margarita". After the term  was coined (by none other that pseudo NY housewife Bethany Frankel), I decided to try out this much raved about concoction. Two words...yum-ooo, and apparently it will keep my butt skinny--but not if I keep drinking them at this rate! This margarita is definitely best with a smooth silver tequila like CORZO!

Check out my favorite recipe's so far:

Skinny girl:

-2 oz of CORZO Silver tequila

-Tiny splash of orange liquor

-Juice of 4 fresh lime wedges

Combine all ingredients over a glass of ice and garnish with a lime wedge

CORZO Mayan Margarita (by Dale DeGroff)

 

1 ½ Parts CORZO Reposado

1 tablespoon red pepper jelly or half red pepper half jalapeño pepper jelly

1/2 Part Agave Nectar

1 Part fresh lime juice

Orange slice

Unsweetened chocolate powder mixed with ancho chili powder; 2 parts chocolate powder to one part chili powder to dust the rim of the glass. 

 

Prepare the rim of the glass with a dusting of the chocolate/chili mixture by wetting the rim with an orange slice. Fill the glass with cracked ice. Assemble the ingredients in the glass half of a Boston shaker and shake very well with ice. Strain into the prepared glass and serve immediately.

This one if fantastic, the spicy-ness of the jelly really swirls all the flavors together making the perfect drink. I love spicy stuff so this was great, another fave jalapeno margarita:
