Even though everyone and their mother, sister and daughter have a pair of Tory Burch flats, I still kind of want to join the club. Usually I am vehemently against following a trend endemic to all, especially accessories and purses graffiti-ed with labels from Coach to Louis Vuitton, but what’s not to like about Tory Burch’s simple, yet sophisticated and classic flats? The “Reva” flat is her most popular, which I’d prefer in Leopard print . But I also have my eyes on her new “Sterling” ballerina flat in brown and also her “Harrison” loafer.
However, summer is fast approaching, especially with the help of global warming, and loafers don’t seem so appropriate for the sporadic end of spring heat waves. Fortunately an oasis awaits shoe seekers in Larkspur, California. Item Shoes, owned by Joy Goldberg, is a retreat for shoe connoisseurs in the Bay Area, where much of the shoe market is dominated by clog emporiums or outdoorsy footwear stores. Style and fashion are two essential components at Item, which carries moderately priced shoes like Dolce Vita, Havianas and Sam Edelman but also high end names like Tory Burch, Michael Kors and Sigerson Morrison.
According to Ms. Goldberg, metallics and patents are still hot, as well as gladiators sandals. Siegerson Morrison makes a great flat metallic thong sandal, but I’m still wary of the gladiator sandal because I have noticed they include a depressing side affect: cankles. Instead of gladiators, try a sexy wedge heel by Korkease, which has a vast array of colors and heel heights . But if high heels give you sea legs then try a pair of classis Sperry Top Siders which look great on the yacht or in the paddle boat .
Make a trip to Larkspur and you’ll look cool in whatever footwear your purchase this summer. Though the store is called Item, I’m sure you’ll leave with more than one singular item.
I follow you VIA GFC and I love your blog!
