I decided I need a new black bag. After I finished typing that sentence I realized I don’t even have a black bag, purse, satchel, or clutch. Most of my carrying cases are bold, bright, and rich colors like mustard, mahogany or coral. I can’t believe it just dawned on me today that I don’t have a black bag.
Surfing the web I found a big, huge Calleen Cordero bag in black. It doesn’t have any bells or whistles, just a simple bow, which I like. This does not end my search. The quest for the perfect black bag is as difficult as searching for the perfect black dress. Sure, there are options that will suffice, but I want something that will more than appease me. My black purse will essentially be an extension of myself. An attempt to fit the most important and portable objects of my life into a mobile piece of fashion.
Please do not judge me on my lack of a black purse. I realize the absence of this fashion fixture lessens my credibility as a fashionista. Believe me when I write, I have an arsenal of little black dresses! And yes, I realize that a black purse is not a pressing fashion need for summer, but this is kind of an emergency, don’t you think? My intention was to do another boutique column tonight, but the realization that I am without a black purse is paralyzing.
I found an Ananas black leather purse, which would be practical for going out at night, but for day I need something super-sized to fit my lip gloss, lotion, bottled water, notepad and books. Foley & Corinna have me drooling over two bags. The Jet Setter Junior bag is sophisticated and practical, but their Desert Messenger is slouchy, casual and chic.
Really, I could rattle off a bevy of bag names and styles to you, but it would be to no avail. This new pursuit to find the perfect bag trumps my previous search to find the perfect man. At least I have faith there is a perfect bag out there to hold on to. . .the man, well, I’m sure he’s a one season wonder.
