By The Devil Wears Marc Jacobs
A week ago today, The Towering World of Jimmy Choo: A Glamorous Story of Power, Profits, and the Pursuit of the Perfect Shoe (phew..that's a long title) was released.
Upon receiving my advanced copy, I was ready to crack my book open, park my butt down, and read about the ubiquitous Jimmy Choo, that which Carrie Bradshaw could not live without! However my rendezvous with my Choo was halted several times. Yawn...one time even allowing me a decent bedtime.
I consider myself a fashionista: a fashion savvy, trend pursuing lady with an fabulous sense of style and an even better wardrobe. So of course I was ready to learn about the man behind the brand (Jimmy Choo), yet what I got was a long description of Vidal Sassoon and his company, Tamara Yeardye: party girl and socialite, responsible for bringing Jimmy Choo to fame, and all the drama between Jimmy and his then backers-the Yeardye's (although drama always make for a good read!)
The press release attached to my copy stated in this book you will find "a behind the scenes exclusive look at the rise to fame for this most extraordinary shoe brand." What I found, reminded me of my days in high school, reading and re-reading my Biology text book, because it wasn't clear enough, and at times, rambling.
I did enjoy the earlier parts of the book, explaining how Jimmy Choo, a Malaysian shoemaker started out in London in the late 80's. Also, it was great to relive the 1990's Oscar ceremony where Jimmy Choo shoes were the hot ticket item, and everyone from a pre-Pitt Angelina Jolie to Princess Diana wanted a pair.
Overall, the info in the book was too intense for the light subject matter: shoes and fashion. Nobody wants to have to number crunch before getting to the good stuff!
Big Thanks to Goldberg McDuffie Communications, Inc. for my copy!
